By that I mean having good data on each stage in your sales funnel, having great standard operation systems, and a few more things. For example, if you are sending traffic from a Youtube video to a page where people can buy your product, how many visitors do you send and how many sales do you make as a result? Is there a video that works better than others? Why?

Making money every month consistently from your own business usually takes skill and experience. And consistency is the goal. If you have skill and experience in this arena, that’s great! Step 1: Set up Analytics and Split Test

 

“Billboards are the future!” said nobody for a while… That’s because billboards cost a lot up front and take too long to show if they are working or not. What’s worse is that it’s really difficult to know which billboards are making you money and which ones aren’t. Then the internet came along and whadoyaknow… I can get visitors from all over the world in an instant! I can know exactly how many people saw my page and how many of them bought from that page. And if I have 10 pages on my site, I can look at the data to see which one of them is converting the best and send most of my traffic there…

 

The name of the game is Data. If you have any kind of an online element to your business (facebook or Youtube presence, website with products or services for sale, email opt in page with followup email sequences) you are fortunate. However, you don’t need all the data in the world. At first, you just need data on how well your sales funnel is doing.

 

If you already use a tracking system, skip to Step 2. If you don’t, there are several tracking systems to choose from. Many people use google analytics because it’s free and accurate enough to get the job done. You’ll have to follow instructions online (youtube, etc) to install the code on your side so the analytics will begin. Once you have data, you can go in and see exactly how many people have visited your sales page during a certain period of time, like a month or 6 months, and see how many sales you made from that product during that same time. Those two numbers are important. Together you can get a percentage of visitors that will buy. This is called your Conversion Rate. You need this metric handy to be able to incrementally grow your revenue and your company value.

 

Split Testing, aka A/B Testing, is crucial for the ongoing success of your business as the market constantly evolves. It’s a pretty simple process. You take a sales page you already have created and you copy it. Then you make one change (a headline, button color, background color, etc) and you send 50% of your traffic to the new page and 50% to the original. If the new one wins, you replace the original with it and create a new test. This goes on until you are converting better than anyone and everyone else in your market.

 

If you want something easier than google for split testing, you can pay a small fee and use VWO (Visual Website Optimizer). It’s really good for small to medium businesses but not good if you have millions of visitors per week to your sales pages.

 

Step 2: Understand What Good Copywriting Looks Like

 

Copywriting and writing good sales pages that make people want to buy your products is a talent that can take a lifetime to master. Unfortunately I don’t have that long! The best way to learn the art of Copywriting is to Split Test and see what works and what doesn’t. There’s no speculation in Test Results. You either increase the conversion rate or you don’t. I’ve seen the best Copywriters in the world convert like crap on a Split Test against something that is poorly written, but sincere. It’s the secret of every great Copywriter in history that they don’t know what will convert. They test and see, gather data to formulate ideas, and use their art to design a masterpiece… or a master piece of crap.

 

You’ll need to be familiar with the main elements of Copywriting, what needs to be written on your sales pages, how to get attention in the right way with ads, etc. But you don’t need to master it. Luckily you now live in the time of AI and there are some amazing tools you can use. OpenAI.com has a great reputation if you want to use something designed for writing sales copy.

 

Ok, so let’s say that you have good-enough copy (good words, mostly) on your main sales page or funnel (this works even for phone sales funnels where you test and optimize scripts)... what's next? Once you have the copy/split testing thing going in your business it’s only a matter of time before you blow the lid off this whole thing. Now… this could take a week or it could take 8 months so let’s do what we can to make it happen as quickly as possible while preparing your business to handle the success.

 

One key to success in this stage is finding a way to stabilize your revenue each month. The goal is to get all of your life and business expenses covered each month, consistently. But how do you do this in an online business? There are a few ways, but by far the fastest, easiest and cheapest way is to use a little ninja affiliate traffic technique…

 

Imagine you have a podcast or youtube channel that has a decent following. You also have a product or service you’re offering your followers that is decently profitable and covers your bills but isn’t consistent month-to-month. One thing you can do to make your revenue more consistent is to team up with your competitors and get a promo for your product in their customer’s email autoresponder.

 

Ok, so what the efff does that mean? Simple. Reach out to anyone that has a competing product in your industry. If you think they have a good product, make a deal: you’ll put a 3 day promotion for their product in your customer’s autoresponder. Tell them that 60 days after they buy your product, you will promote their product as well. And then ask if they will do the same for you: send a 3 day email promo to any new customers 60 days after they buy…

 

This ensures that, when your competitors are doing great, you are also seeing some of that, and vice versa.

 

All of the steps you’ve learned so far fit together into a simple map to get your business ready for scaling and big growth.

First, let’s talk about Upsells and Autoresponders…

 

Step 4: Creating Upsells and a Good Customer Email Sequence

 

If you have an upsell and a good email sequence that you send your customers after they buy, then you can move on to Step 5. If you don’t yet, let’s take a look at how to do that quickly and easily. An upsell is a term used usually to mean an offer that you would find on the thank you page after you buy something. This increases the average dollar value of each customer and can allow you to spend more money on ads than your competitors. More ad budget = more customers.

 

If you don’t have an upsell yet, you can’t lose by adding one. On your thank-you page after someone purchases, add another offer for a product that is related. The easy way to know what to offer them here is to ask yourself the question: “If I solved their problem right now, what else would they want next?”

 

This question usually leads you to some good ideas.

 

There is a lot you could learn about upsells but not enough space here. Just know they are important and you will want to add them to each product you sell, even if you’re doing phone sales and you aren’t online.

 

Once you have your upsells in place, next you want to make sure you have a solid customer Email Sequence autoresponder. This is just the emails that go out regularly to each customer after they buy. It should spend the first 60 days teaching them how to best use your product or service and offering them more of your products (think Upsells).

 

After that 60 days you can feel free to promote other offers that will pay you an affiliate commission, if you believe in them.

 

Step 5: Create SOPs

 

It took me decades to really appreciate the true power of solid Standard Operating Procedures. This can be overwhelming because literally every little job or action taken in your business needs to be recorded and standardized into an SOP. This makes it so that jobs are easily filled when someone quits or is fired.

 

You can do this the easy way if you want to…Have your team/assistant create and perfect their own Standard Operating Procedures as they go. If they do a good job, let them know that you’ll hire someone with less experience to do their job using the SOPs they created and promote them to an even more fun position.
